The Community
River Bend is a unique community of 45 mountainside wooded, single family homesites with a panoramic view of the city lights at night and the Susquehanna River's beauty during the day.
The Street Scape
Unlike many developments, all public streets will soon be completed and lined with trees. Many of the homesites have been regraded and topsoiled to provide future homeowners with the location and elevation of their house constructions site.
The Homesites
The 105 acres that comprise River Bend are located on the south side of Blue Mountain overlooking the Susquehanna River at the "river's bend". Forty-one homesites, from 1 to nearly 2 acres, are located on the mountain's bench with the 4 remaining estate-sized lots close to the top of the mountain.
The Designs
An Architectural Review Committee has been established to assist lot owners and provide guidelines related to house designs, construction materials and the aesthetics of exterior elevations. Musser Home Builders works within the guidelines of the committee in designing your home.
Community Details
Location
From the 1920's through the 1940's, the Enola Railroad Yards made East Pennsboro an important commercial area. The economic activity has changed as substantial new light industries and professional centers have replaced those that declined due to technology. Growth continues to be robust in contrast to many other northeastern communities. East Pennsboro is one of several municipalities known collectively as the metropolitan area of the West Shore (of the Susquehanna River). The township benefits from its nearness to Harrisburg (the East Shore of the Susquehanna River) which is the state capital, and to Carlisle, the county seat.
Directions
Take Routes 11/15 North towards Summerdale/Enola. Turn left at the signal light onto Valley Road, turn right on First Street, turn right on Miller Road to a stop sign at Belle Vista Drive, turn left on Belle Vista and proceed to development entrances on right.
Utilities
Underground services are provided by Pennsylavania Power & Light, Bell Atlantic Telephone, Suburban Cable, and East Pennsboro Sewer Authority. Trash is removed under contract to a private company that also operates the Township's recycling program. Water is provided by private on-lot wells which are drilled, grouted and tested prior to settlement.
Schools
East Pennsboro School District serves this community with Grades K-4 at West Creek Hills Elementary, Grades 5-8 at East Pennsboro Middle School, and Grades 9-12 at East Pennsboro High School. Post high school educational opportunities abound in and around the Township. Institutions of higher learning include Central Penn Business School located in Summerdale, Messiah College in Grantham, Dickinson College and Law School in Carlisle, Shippensburg University, Harrisburg Area Community College, Dixon University Center, Temple University Extension, Widener Law School and the Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg. Three dozen trade and professional schools are also located in the area.
Recreation
The Township Parks and Recreation Department has ten pavilions equipped with picnic tables and charcoal grills. These sheltered pavilions are located at Adams-Ricci Community Park, Acri Meadow Park, Midway Park, Ridley Park and West Fairview Park. Soccer, baseball and softball fields along with volleyball and tennis courts are available throughout the Township. Driving times to Ski Roundtop and Pinchot State Park are approximately 25 minutes; to Camp Hill shopping areas -- 10 minutes; to Hershey Park -- 25 minutes; to Baltimore -- 1 1/2 hours; and to Washington, DC and Philadelphia -- 2 hours.
